Baby Jing Jing Makes Seven

I'm not a talented photographer, writer, or craft-maker, but I do enjoy writing and photographing my family. This is a history of my family. I will share my thoughts and experiences with being a mother, on adoption, on limb differences, and my beliefs as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("the Mormons"). Enjoy my blog "Baby Jing Jing Makes Seven."

My new blog

I wanted to make blogging easier by using my phone, so I now have a new blog.  I am still trying to figure it out, so it is in its infant stage right now.  But, I am going to stop writing on this blog and hopefully, start writing more on my new one.  We'll see...
It is babyjingjingmakesseven.wordpress.com
Wordpress is a bit different from blogger, so it will take me a while until I figure it out.  I am hoping that I will post more, because it allows me to use the pictures directly from my phone, without first downloading them into another form.

Happy 13th birthday, T!!

My big girl turned 13 years old last Sunday.  It seemed like it took forever for her to be officially a teenager; she has always seemed older so now her years match.  She had a great birthday.  Six of her best girlfriends from school, rode the train home with her last Friday.  I dropped them off at Wendy's for a frosty and fries, and then they walked home.
Then, we ordered pizza and had lots of junk food and the girls hung out until 10:00pm just talking and laughing together.  They are a good group of girls and T was so happy that all of them could come over.
T's birthday was on a Sunday, so her special meal was grilled out hamburgers and she wanted homemade guacamole to put on them with bacon too.  Yummy.  She loved all of her birthday presents.  She got lots of Tsum Tsums from her grandparents and some clothes.  She got money from us and her siblings got her some more Tsum Tsums.
She wanted a chocolate cake with Oreo frosting.  It was delicious, but I am so tired of cake.
I love that my big girl is growing up.  She has always been a good girl and she continues to be one.  I love seeing her grow in school and the friends she has made.  I love seeing her make good choices.  She is such a hard worker and very goal oriented.  She also has such a kind heart.
Happy birthday sweet daughter of mine!

Happy 6th Birthday, Z!!!

It took a whole year, but Z finally turned 6 years old, almost two weeks ago.  I cannot believe that my baby is 6 years old.  I love having my kids get older.
She loved everything about her birthday, except that we picked up our season passes to Seven Peaks...on a Saturday.  Apparently, we should never, ever go to a Seven Peaks play park/water park on a Saturday because there were 3 million people crammed into this building.  Awful.  It was at that time that I decided that no matter how cheap, we will never get another Seven Peaks pass again--Z agreed and said it was the worst day ever.  We promised that it would get better, and it did.  We had slushies on the way home.  She got a puzzle and Q-bitz from us and a Kindle Fire from her grandparents.  Best birthday EVER!

She originally wanted a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.  But, when she picked her icecream out, she wanted strawberry.  I thought that would make for an awful combination, so I made her a chocolate cake with fresh whipped cream and strawberries as the frosting and filling to the double layer cake.  It was delicious, but I probably liked it more than anyone else because it wasn't very sweet, and I don't like sweet things.  Yum.
I love that my baby is getting so big.  This was a big year for her.  She started kindergarten and now she can read, she can ride a two wheeled bike, she can tie shoes, she can swing, draw, figure out any remote control.  She is a smarty pants.  I do love her.  She is a kind and generous daughter.  She has a sensitive spirit and her heart hurts when she sees sad things happen to others.  She is also has a wicked sense of humour.   Happy birthday baby girl!

Daddy-Daughter Ball

Why is it that everytime I want a group picture, someone has to be mad or sad?  The daddy took the girls to the school's Daddy Daughter Ball a couple of weeks ago.  All the girls were looking forward to it, because many of their friends were going to be there.
I think Z was mad because T told her that she should change her dress because it was too big.  Let it go, that is what I say.  She looked beautiful, so don't listen to T.
Everyone had a nice time.  T disappeared once they got to the school and the daddy didn't see her again until it was time to leave.  So much for dancing with your daddy.

Pinewood Derby and dressing a cat.

I forgot all about these pictures.  T decided to dress up Mae Mae in a cute Spring dress.  We figured that since she is so docile, that she wouldn't protest too much.  Well, Mae Mae does not like to wear clothes.
Plus, she was too fat for the Build a Bear dress that was chosen for her.  I guess she will just have to run around without clothes.  Now we know.

The first Tuesday in April was pinewood derby.  OUR LAST ONE!  Yay.  I have been going to pinewood derbys for the last six years.  Have to admit that they are not my favorite, but this was our last one.  NW made a truck.  It did okay.  At least it wasn't the slowest and there were no meltdowns, not that I expected one.  It is fun to watch the dads who spent a lot of time making their boys cars and their intensity and pleasure they got.  I wish that the cars were made completely by the boys, then it would be a fair race.  Oh well, my last race!

These are a few of my favorite things...

Last week, I went to my first book club meeting that just was organized in my neighborhood.  While there I was introduced to my newest favorite thing--Goodreads app.  It is an app that lets you rate books that you have read and then also get recommendations of books and see what my friends are reading.  The funny thing is, I have been a member of Goodreads since 7/2008 and I had never actually gone on it.  Apparently, one of my friends sent me an email invite to join it, and apparently, I did, which then caused me problems because I had no idea what my password could possibly be.  Anyway, I really like it because now I can keep track of what books I have read, because I never remember the names of books or even sometimes if I have read them.  I'm old like that.
My second favorite thing is ancestry.com.  I have been spending hours and hours researching my family history.  I might have a bit of an addiction.  I love looking through old census records and especially death certificates.  My heart feels sad when I think of the really hard lives that many of my ancestors had.
Finally, I love the new show, "The Relative Race."  If you have a roku or a fire stick or any of the streaming devices or if you just have access to BYUtv, then you too can fall in love with "The Relative Race
It is kind of like"The Amazing Race", which is the only other tv show that we watch, but it is four teams that are looking for their ancestors.  They are given clues  and each team will end up in NYC.  It is a really fun show and I would love for me and Travis to get on the show and meet some of my ancestors, especially if they are my Jewish ancestry which we have no stories from.  The show is done by ancestryDNA.  I just love it.  We are all rooting for the red team, but like all the teams except the blue team.  Watch it, you'll like.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!  After rain and snow all week and today, Easter came in beautifully.  Blue skies and sunshine.
I love these girls of mine.  The little girls look so short though, actually, maybe it is just that G is so short.
The kids took a pretty decent picture this year, except for NW, who, for whatever reason, was having a difficult morning, so was sad.  It really is impossible to have five smiling faces at the same time.
I love the above message of Jesus Christ.  As I said in a past post, I don't really care for holidays and all of the silly things that come with them, but I do love the real reason for Easter.  Jesus lives!  He really does live and because He lives, so will we.  Because He lives, I can repent and be forgiven.  Because He lives, I can feel peace and joy!  This has been a really hard last few weeks.  I have felt depleted physically and spiritually.  So, I prayed that on Easter that I would be able to feel His Spirit and to receive peace and direction.  And, I did.  I love Jesus Christ and am amazed that He loved me enough to die for me.
